If you are in the North Shore area of Chicagoland,
our electricians can perform the installation for you, or
you can have a local electrical contractor of your choice
perform the installation.
How we perform our installations:
- Cap existing gas line at the source
- Remove old gas burner and mantles
- Install new "dual socket"
T Bar
- Drill hole in post or fixture, and
install photocell
- Install new low voltage wiring from
power source at the house to post light
- Connect transformer to wiring at
house and plug into outdoor outlet or in basement
- Finish all connections and re-assemble
fixture, clean up
- Test new lamps by placing finger
over photocell - wait a few seconds - lamps should light
and turn off a few seconds after finger is removed
The transformer converts the 120-volt power
to the safe 24-volt requirement for the lamps
The "T Bar" has two 12-volt lamps
connected "in-series"
The photocell turns the lamps on at dusk and
off at dawn
NOTE:
If one lamp burns out, both lamps will be out - we recommend
replacing both lamps at the same time because the other one
will probably burn out soon
To test fixture, put finger over photocell
lense
If the wiring has been shorted out then the
transformer will turn off and the green LED will go out -
(fix short if it exists) the transformer will reset itself
within 10-30 minutes.
If the lamps are replaced and the lights still
don't work, check the transformer - it should always be luke
warm and the green LED should be on. If the transformer is
cold, check if there is power in the outlet. If there is,
then the transformer will need to be replaced if it does not
reset itself within 10-30 minutes. It is thermally protected
from overload condition, so if it keeps tripping then there
may possibly be an overload or short in the wiring.
